Now Available - a new book about The Meadows, Nottingham. This book looks in detail at the development of The Meadows. In fifty years (1850-1900) it went from an idyllic rural pasture or meadow, covered in crocuses and grazed by sheep and cattle, to an overcrowded Victorian suburb prone to flooding on an exceptional scale. The book looks at the history of the area’s development, the buildings, and the streets. The area was extensively redeveloped in the 1970s which means that 50 years later many of the current residents may have little or no idea of what it was like before. This book tries to fill that gap. |
